Free Choice

Dia Dhuit gach duine (Hello everyone! Language: Irish!)

What do your normally do on a Thursday afternoon in Term 2 and half of Term 3?

Well the year 5-8's at my school do Winter Sport! Winter Sport involves four (4) sports. They are Netball, Hockey, Football\Soccer and Rugby. Each person in years 5-8 had to pick a first and second choice. Also everyone had to do trials for their first and second choice just so the teachers\coaches know what team to put you in if your don't get your first choice.  My choices were:

1st- Netball.
2nd- Football\Soccer.

This year I am in the A team for Netball. My team is called the SFOA Wasps! (What an interesting name!)
In my team are: Phoebe, Casey, Myself (Hannah), Maia, Luca, Samantha, Felicity, Anabelle, Olivia and Roza. (Links on their names are to their blogs!)
We are an amazing team and work really well together! Before the season starts, all the A teams get to go a tournament. At this tournament you verse different schools\clubs that are in the A team for their schools\clubs. My team versed 4 other schools\clubs that day and won all of them which meant we won our section. (Section A!) We loved every moment especially when we were playing in the rain!
In Week 3 of Term 2, all the rest of the teams (including the A teams) played their first game!
My team won 15-14. It was a very close game!

Have you ever done Winter Sport before?

Recraft!

Namaste everyone,

Throught out this term I have been working on goals that I want to get greened. Throught out the past two weeks in a writing workshop, the goal that I have been focusing on is: "Revise and rework writing for clarity, impact and purpose." This means that going over our writing pieces and posts to see if we can make it even better and to a more better of a high standed. As you probably have seen, I have recrafted one of my blog posts from the term called Kaupeka Digi Awards. I posted this in week 3 of this term. Here is the same copy of the post but I have recrafted it to make it even better.

Before reading it, have a look at my old one and then my new one to see the differences that I have changed and if I have made it better. Feel free to leave some comments on this one. :)

Quote of the day: (Chosen by me!) (Credits: Success Quotes)
"Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the Human Spirit. We are all in this notion together. The potential for greatness lives within each of us. "

Bonjour everyone! Welcome back to my amazing blog where I hope you can’t wait to read my blogs! I hope you guys have had a great first few weeks of the new year.
Before I get into today's blog, I will be telling you guys that every time I do a blog post, the starting of it will be with a quote. That quote will fit into the theme of the blog! Today in this lovely blog post that I have been creating, I will be talking to all the people about the Kaupeka's Digi Awards.
Whose ready?

Throughout Term 1 of 2019, our PBL (PBL= Project Based Learning.) topic is "What is Greatness?." Over the term we have be talking about Greatness. Some things we have been thinking about are:  Who we think shows Greatness the most, Some Greatness activities and then our final thing-  Our Kaupeka Digi Award’s project that fits into the theme of our topic. (Greatness) For the Kaupeka Digi Awards, we will be using the criteria and the rubrics of the Canterbury Digi Awards. (Website: Grow Waitaha.) We will be judged on all the things that are included in the rubrics and then the best out of everyone in Kaupeka who fits into all the requirements will win a prize and one of the placings. (Placings: 1st, 2nd and 3rd.) The categories that we can enter into are:  Storytelling, Commercial, Coding, Open and Website. We also can enter with people up to the maximum of 3 people or by ourselves. I am doing a website with my friend Samantha. (Just me and her!)
In our website, we will be including a video about Greatness and how we can show it in school time and in our community, Some info on Greatness and what it is, Some coding animations about
Greatness and some detailed Google Drawings around Greatness. (Most of the things we create and make will be around the theme “Greatness”.) We have a clear plan on what each of us have to do and are ready to face the big challenges that are coming ahead really soon and what we have faced already.
At the end of the term, we will have our own Kaupeka Digi Awards where we have a look at everyone's entries and congratulate everyone who did a great job. Those people that win a placing in their chosen category, will receive a prize.

Have you ever participated in some sort of Digi Awards before?
If so, what category did you enter into?
Did you win?
If you haven't entered, why not face your fear and give it a go?

Ni Hao! Welcome! In this blog post, we will be talking about my hubs self management levels! Come take a seat and make sure to have an ear open just in case! :)

In our hub this year we have Self management levels for the year. This help us make our own choices and how to choose them wisley. The 4 levels are: Goomba Town, Cookie Canyon, Fuzzy Tree Tops and Bowsers Ultiamte Lair! Each one has a reason on what we did well and what we need to work on to get to the next level. Right now most of the hub are in Goomba Town. Their are around 10-15 people in Cookie Canyon which is awesome! Guess what! I am one of them! Yay! It's so cool to be in their! I can't wait to see what I can do to move upto the higher one which would make me so so so happy!

Have you ever had Self Management Levels before? If so, where did you get up to at the end of the year? What were the names of the levels? Were they as creative as our ones?

Term 1, Week 7, Free choice- Leadership Groups!

Quote of the day!
"People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader leads with pride and the boss drives."

Welcome back! I hope you guys are having an awesome day! Today I will be talking to you about our amazing leadership groups! Enjoy!

On Monday 4th Feburary 2019 we started to discuss what leadership groups we could apply for and the order we wanted our choices to be in. Our final choices were: Media Team, PALS, Googlers, The Arts, Enviourment and STEM. Here is a little bit about each leadership group.

Media Team: Media Team is where we make the SFOA news, do a bake sale to earn money that would go towards something for us and to prouduce more things that are really exciting.

PALS: PALS is PALS. Well it actually is our sport group where they lead the whole school in sporting activites. Some examples are: Practises for Athletics, Sausage Sizzle, House Color activites and more! This is such an awesome group and if you ever got the choice to be in a leadership group, I would suggest this one if it's not already on the list.

Googlers: Googlers is the computer coding group. We do computer comps, get to use new toys that invovle technology, help out people with computer coding and more.

The Arts: The Arts is a group where they do drawings and create comps for everyone across the school. They also do other stuff that goes across their name. (The Arts)

Envoiurment: Envoiurment team is where they look after our school and nature. They put up signs to tell us what to stop and how we can help with things and more.

STEM: STEM is a group where they teach science, technology, engering and maths.

So now that you have had a little brief on what each group does, here is my order that I put down from the groups that I wanted to be in to the ones that I didn't.

1.) Media Team
2.) PALS Team
3.) Googlers Team
4.) Enviourment Team
5.) STEM Team
6.) The Arts.

How do you think of my choices of order?

Well can you guess what group I got put into? Why don't I tell you! I got into...
GOOGLERS! YAY! I can't wait for all the things we get to do through-out the year.

Have you ever been into a leadership group before? If so, what were you in?

Term 1, Week 5, Free Choice- Touch

Quote of the day! (Chosen again by me!)
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."

Tolafa everyone! Welcome boys and girls and anyone else who is reading my blog today. (Also welcome to 2019!!)
In this really impressive blog post today, I will be talking to you about touch that I partiapate in on a Wednesday. Roll on back and relax as you read about the wonder of touch.

On Wednesday's after school, I particapate in a sport called touch. Touch is like rugby execpt you don't tackle. You have 7 in a line versing the other 7 in the other team. One team starts with the ball and then they try and get past the other team to get a try. If one of the people in the other team touch you, that counts as one touch. When you reach 6, it's hand over. Then the other team gets the ball and you have to try and stop them from getting a try and also trying youe hardest to touch them so it's quicker for you to help your team get the ball.  This is my third term of playing touch. It's so fun and I recommend you trying it and seeing if you like it. I really think you will!

My first term playing touch was really scary but in the end I got used to it. In that term of touch, my coach was Miss Hansen. She is really awesome and super fun!

In my second term of playing touch, I started to play really well and almost scored a few trys. At the award for touch, I got MVP. (Stands for: Most Valuable Player!) I was so happy with myself! For that term, my coach was Maureen. She was super cool and always cheering us on and encouaging us to finish the challenging battle.

Finally this term (My third term) I have just started this season. So far it's going good but I am a little scared and also getting used to touch. Guess who my coach is! Miss Hansen! YAY!! Like I said earlier she is so cool and really fun and I feel very lucky to have her as a coach again for this term's touch.

Have you ever played touch before? Did you enjoy it? Why? Why not?

Term 4 Touch (Week 4 Free Choice)

Hello vistors,

Welcome back!

Today I will be talking about touch.
Let's begin!!

So on every Wednesday after school, some of my school do touch. In touch we verse different age groups and different genders. It's a really fun game so I recommend you try and have a go. Here is how touch works and what it is.

Touch is a sport where you have 6 people on a field and you try and get a try. You have 6 touches before it's a hand over to the other team. Each half is 15 minutes. When the first 15 minutes is up, it's half time so you have a break and a quick team chat. Then you go back onto the field and play for another 15 minutes. When the game is over, the winner is who has the most points.

I started playing touch when I was year 5. I really enjoyed it and wanted to play the next year. (Year 6) Unforutanly I couldn't as I had dance. But in year 7 (What I am now) , I was able to play touch as well as do my dancing. It's so fun!

Touch is an awesome game and I would really advice you to have a go.

Have you ever played touch before? If you did, did you enjoy it? Why? Why not?

Netball Scoring and Team members! (Free Choice, Term 3)

Hello Everyone. Welcome back!

In this blog post for today I will be talking to you about Netball. I have told you about Netball in another blog, but in this blog I am talking to you about my teams netball scores. So every Saturday, I am playing Netball for my school club. My club's name is called St Francis of Assisi school Netball club. Anyone can join but there are terms and condition's. If you add players after the end of date you might be lucky but also when the date has passed for  you to add players, you can't anymore. Anyway so here are a list of people that are in my team and a bit about them. They all have blogs so go check them out!

Roza- Roza normally plays GD, GK and WD. Roza is a great ballerina and loves to do ballet during netball. She is a delightful person and loves to cheer everybody up.

Samantha- Samantha normally plays, GD and GK. She is really good at defence and most times gets the ball from the other team and then gets it back down to us. She also gets intercepts and rebounds as well.  We really like having her on the team!

Monique- Monique normally plays WD and WA. She is a really lovely person and a great person to have on the team. When the ball is let loose, she always runs to the ball and tries to get her hands on it.

Tamera- Tamera normally plays WA and C. She is a feisty girl and always runs for the ball. She also sometimes falls over the ball when she grabs it. Tamera is an awesome player and loves to play netball.

Beccy- Beccy normally plays C and WA like Tamera. Beccy is another feisty girl. If she and another player from the other team hold the ball at the same time, she is always trying to get the ball. She loves to play netball and loves to get in there and do her very best.

Ellen- Ellen normally plays WA and GD. Ellen loves to dance while playing netball and loves to give it a go. She does get a lot of intercepts while playing a game of netball which is awesome!

Maggie- Maggie normally plays GA and GS. This is her first year playing netball with us and so far she done awesome. She is the tallest in the team and get's intercepts pretty well. She's done a great job so far and hopefully keeps it up.

Hannah (Me!)- Hannah (Me) normally plays GA and GS like Maggie. I really love to shoot because it makes me happy when I get a goal. I go from any positions. Far away to right under the goal. I am also good at getting intercepts.

After reading all that, you should know something about about every player that is in my team. (Including me!) Now I will tell you a bit about our games and the scoring.

So each Saturday our team plays a game of netball at different times. It could be 10:30, 11:25, 1:15, 2:10 or 3:05. Most of us don't really mind what time we play. Anyway so our first few games that we played were grading games. Grading games is where they grade us to see what section we will be in when the grading is over. Every game that was in grading, we unfortunately lost. So we got put into section 9 which is the last section, but that doesn't matter. It should be easier! So here is a list of the grading games. In it will be a explanation of what the team did well, what we need to work on, the score, the team we played and who got player of the day. Lets get started!

Game 1. The first game that the team played, we were versing Marist K. The score was 23-1. Unfortunately we lost our very first game but we were still all proud. The player of the day was Samantha! Awesome!

Game 2: The second game that my team played, we were versing Cashmere. The score was 30-2. Unfortunately we lost but still played a great game.  The player of the day was Roza!!!

Game 3: The third game that my team played, we were versing Merrin B. Unfortunately our team lost again but it was the closest game that we got out of the grading games. The player of the day went to Beccy!!

Game 4: The fourth and final game for grading that my team played, we were versing Technical JA. The final score at full time was 13-4. Unfortunately we lost but still kept our happy face on. The player of the day went to Maia who was filling in for us on that day! Very good!

When the grading games had finished, we got put into section 9 like I said before. So we have played all our games so far and here are the results.

Game 1: The first game that my team played for this section was versing St Margarets W. The final score was 20-4. We won! We actually won a game this season! Woo hooo! The player of the day went to Hannah! (Me) Yay!!

Game 2: The second game that my team played, we were versing St Andrew's P. The final score at full time was 9-8. We won again! The player of the day went to.. Ellen! Awesome!!

Game 3: The third game that we played, we were versing Middleton. The final score at the end of the game was 20-2. We won again! My team are on a roll! The player of the day went to.. Monique! Nice!

Game 4: The fourth game that we played, we were versing, St Margaret's V. The final score at the end was 17-6. Unfortunately we lost but still had a great game. Player of the day went to Maggie!! Awesome work!!

Game 5: The fifth and final game that we played, we were versing St Nicholas. The final score was 21-1. We lost but still were really proud of ourselves that we got a goal! The player of the day went to Tamera! Nice job!

After that last game we had a break and then on the 21st of July we started back playing. This time we were in section 8 and are playing in the championship rounds. If we have a fear score we might go into the semi-finals and then finals! That would be awesome!

Our first game that we played in section 8, we were versing Merrin B. The final score was 10-9. We lost but only by one! The player of the day went to Roza for some great intercepts!

Our second game that we played, we were versing Parklands D. The final score was 14-13. We lost again and only by one!!! The player of the day went to Tamera!! Nice job!!

Our third game that we played, we were versing Belfast. The final score was 24-3. We lost but was a great game! Samantha got player of the day!!

Our fourth game that we played, we were versing St Nicholas. We had versed them in the other section but unfortunately lost. This time the final score was 31-4. We lost but we have improved ever since the last game againts them. Our player of the day went to Ellen! Nice work!

Our fifth and final game for the season, we were versing Halswell G. The final score was 15-3. We lost but was a great game. Player of the day went to everyone!

After that last netball game that was the end of the netball season for the year. My team did really well and am very proud of them!! Keep up the great work for next years season. !!

Have you ever played netball before? Did you enjoy it? Why? Why not?

Digital Project (Free choice, Term 3)

Hi bloggers!

I am back from my second lot of holidays!  Yay!  It's good to be back!

Our focus for this blog is Digital projects! Enjoy!

Last term (term 2) our focus for PBL (Project based learning) was Digital Projects! Digital projects is where we created something on a device that showed our New Zealand stories that we wrote in term 1. My New Zealand story was World War ll. At the start when we started making our Digital projects it was hard as we had to do a story board where we showed what parts of our story we were showing in our Digital projects. Then the hard work started. I decided to do my Digital project on scratch. (Which is a coding website. Go check it out!) A few weeks later I had almost finished it when it started glitching and freezing. AHHHHHHH! I put a post on scratch about it but the suggestions didn't really help. In the end I just had to put up with it!

A few days later, I had finished it and got it checked off! Yay!
I would like to say thanks to Miss Wilson and scratch for helping me get this project done!

Here is a link to my project: Enjoy!

Do you have any feedback on this project? Write the feedback in the comments!!

Scarlet and Ivy book review- The Curse in the candle light! (Free Choice, Term 3)

Ata Marie everyone!

Here is a book review for a pizza challenge that we are doing. My review is on Scarlet and Ivy- The Curse in the Candlelight. I hope you enjoy!!

Title: Scarlet and Ivy-The Curse in the Candlelight.
Author: Sophie Cleverly

Summary:
Scarlet and Ivy return back to Rookwood hoping that this year is going to be the best with nothing to worry about. A few weeks before going to Rookwood, Scarlet and Ivy’s father comes to there aunty’s house and says that he would like Scarlet and Ivy to come back home before heading back to school. Scarlet and Ivy refuse to go but they went in the end. The day before going back to school it was Scarlet and Ivy’s birthday. From there father they got some socks for school and that is it. Later on Scarlet went into her dad’s office and asked if there aunty’s had left any presents. (P.S. Don’t ask for presents!) . Her father said he had,but couldn't remember where he put them. Scarlet knew her step mother had hid them. Did she? Anyway during school there is a new girl that has started. Her name is Ebony McCloud. Scarlet and Ivy really want to meet her but are regretting not to just in case she’s not nice. Do you think she will get up to no good? Will there be anything mischief going on at school because of her? Is she nice?

Find out by reading the book: Scarlet and Ivy- The Curse in the Candlelight.

My thoughts on this book would be it is a really good book because it has more than one mystery, it hooks me in so well, it involves show not tell and that it lets you figure out the mystery as well by asking questions. This book was published this year (2018) and can't wait for the next book if there is another one coming.

Recommendation:
I would recommend this book to people aged 8 and up as it does involve some scary parts that might frighten younger people.

Her parents were getting sick of the yelling and the crying so tried to wear earmuffs to see if that would work so they couldn't hear Tandy throw tantrums. Do you think it works?

Boastful Barnabus: This chapter is about a teacher named Mr Barnabus. Mr Barnabus wants everything to himself and doesn't want anyone to interfere. One afternoon was the prize giving for the end of the school year. Mr Barnabus wanted every single award. Do you think he will?

My thoughts on this book would be awesome as it does have some funny parts that make you laugh while others make you feel like you want to shut the book. This book was published in (2018) and sort of can't wait for the next World's Worst Children book to come out!

Recommendation:
I would recommend this book to people aged 10 and up because if younger people read it, they might turn into one of the World's Worst children (Just joking)  and\or not interested in the book or can't be bothered reading right now.

Review- Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Askaban. (Week 9 Free Choice blog)

Hi Bloggers!

Here is a review on one of the books that I have just finished reading called Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Askaban.

Title: Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Askaban.
Author: J.K. Rowling

I would rate this book a 5\5 because I really enjoyed it and it's a great book to read as it has got a lot of great detail and describes the whole story really well.

Summary:
The day Harry had arrived back at Hogwarts (For his third year)  the adventure began again. In September they had exams so they were practicing until it was September, Hermonie was getting to classes by a time turner, Griffindor won the Quidditch Cup and their was a lot of mysteries to solve that involved thinking.  Do you think Harry fixes all the mysteries before it's to late?
Find out the rest by reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Askaban.

My thoughts on this book would be good because it is a really awesome book and has explained the whole story really well by showing not telling. It was set in Glencoe between May and June 2003. It was published on the 10th Of June 2004.

Recommendations: I would recommend this book to people aged 8 and up. Also to people who like horror and mystery.

Here is a photo of the novel (Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Askaban.)

Here are some things that we have done this week and what we are going to do next week!

On Monday (30th of April) it was the first day back at school for term 2. It was busy but fun. We did the usual stuff that we do every other day, but we also got introduced to some new things as well. We got to sign up to a new novel for the term and went to technology. This term I am in plastics which is cool and very fun. We got to design some things that we could make and then after pick a final one which we will start to make next week. After that we went around each tool and got shown what to do with it and the safety about it. Later on we got introduced to the computers and what they are for. Then it was time to go! It was a very fun afternoon. Later on when we had arrived back from technology it was after school and I went to code club. I am loving it as I am getting introduced to new coding sites and coding we are coding some awesome games! That was fun as well!

On Tuesday (1st of May) it was another usual day except some more new things as well. We got to sign up for writing workshops with three choices. They were jumping frogs, learning the moonwalk and making a mud cake. I chose making a mud cake which was fun! The rest of the day was the usual. It was fun but not as fun as Monday.

On Wednesday (2nd of May) we worked on our Caritas work for most of the morning. The after morning tea we listened to our novel and then listened to a priest that came to visit. After that it was the same as any other day.

On Thursday (3rd of May) was cross country. (I have mostly talked about it in the other blog but will give a quick brief here:)) We walked to Walter park listened to the briefing, did our races, packed up and then walked back. When we were back we started finishing any work off that was due by Friday. I had nothing due but was looking at science and math badges. They sound super fun and can not wait to start them soon!

On Friday (4th of May) it was mufti day. To where mufti we had to bring either a can of evaporated milk or a coin donation. I brag the evaporated milk which was cool. Then for the rest of the day we did math's, cyber smart, fitness, rubric, timetabling and finishing off. It was a great first week back and can't wait for the next week to begin.

Here is now next weeks things that we will be doing on each day that I know of!

On Monday (7th of May) we are doing technology and finishing off work. For technology I will be starting to make my object that I chose. My one is a donut. When i get back I will be doing code club.

On Tuesday (8th of May) I will be finishing off work and doing my language rotation. I do Te reo. It's so fun and I personally would recommend it to people who would like to learn Te reo. Write down in the comments if you would like to know how to learn it at home.

On Wednesday (9th of May) I will be finishing of work that needs to be done.

On Thursday (10th of May) I will be finishing of work and doing netball practice for Hagley sport that starts in week 3.

On Friday (11th of March) I will be going to Assembly, working on the Caritas challenge and finishing off work.

I will be updating these days if I have missed something!

Week 3 Free Choice Blog!

Welcome back guys to my Blog!

If your new to blogger, my name is Hannah and this is my blog. If you scroll down you can see all my posts from the last couple of terms. Anyway let's get to this blog.

Today for this blog I am going to be talking about Netball. Let's go!

Firstly Netball is a winter sport and a bit of a summer sport. If you play it outside it's outdoor netball and if you play it inside it's inside netball. I have been playing netball since year 3. It means a lot to me when I play netball as it's very special to me and is my life.

When you play netball there are different positions in each year. Here they are. Year 3 and year 4 play 5 aside. This involves 2 defenders, 2 attackers and 1 center. The year 5 and some year 6's play 6 aside. They involve 2 defenders, 2 attackers and 2 centers. Finally some year 6's, year 7 and year 8's play 7 aside. That involves 2 attackers, 2 defenders, 1 center, 1 wing defense and 1 goal defense.

This year is my first year playing 7 aside. It is very new to me but I will understand this pretty quick! As it is 7 aside and we are year 7's it is more serious than down below. Which means we need A LOT more practice. Our Coach (Liona)  is now making us to netball practice every Wednesday morning at 8am. AHHHHH! We will get used to it.

Our days we play are every Saturday Morning at different times. This Saturday (5th of may) I am playing at 10:30 am. That is a great time!

I would say that you really need to have a go an Netball because it's so fun, it makes you really fit and tired and is played for any gender.

Question: Have you ever played Netball before or given it a go??

Week 1 Free Choice Blog!

Hello Bloggers!

Today (30th of April 2018) was the first day back at school for term 2. This term was going to be so fun! We will be doing a 24 hour challenge, science badges, math badges, science fair and loads more. But I won't be talking about this in this blog, this blog for today will be about a Cake in a Mug. Let's start!

A Cake in a Mug is basically a small cake that you make in a mug.  Today we had the opportunity to sign up for a writing workshop. I chose the writing workshop of a cake in a mug with one of my teachers Miss Wilson. We were going to be learning about how to make a cake in a mug and how to write instructions on how to make stuff. Firstly we went over the ingredients and materials. Secondly we went down to the staff room and watched Miss Wilson make the cake in a mug. While making it she set us a challenge. When she said go we had to go upstairs and write the instructions. If they were perfect and she liked it, you would be able to taste a bit of the cake in a mug. I was around 5th and never got to taste the cake but that did not matter. She also had told us that we were going to make it tomorrow and eat it which was awesome! That was a great writing session!

Here is my recipe that I did on how to make a cake in a mug!

Mug Cake Instructions!!

Week 9 Free Choice- NZ Event Blurb

Hello Bloggers!!

During term 1 we have been working on PBL. PBL is something where we have a question that we work around. Our PBL question is: how can we as writers effectively share New Zealand's stories??
So one of our tasks was to pick an event that was later in the years (example: 1900's) and write a blurb about the event in your own words. My event is World War ll. Here is some information about World War ll that I found and put in my own words.

In the 1940’s thousands of New Zealanders fought in the World War ll. The battle involved         Germany, Italy and Japan on one side and New Zealand, the United States and Australia on the other side.
New Zealand fought in 3 different places while the battle was on.  They were Singapore,
The seas around Japan and in the islands of Solomon.
The war started on 2nd September 1940.
The countries that fought in the war would fight in any condition of weather.
Even if it was thunder and lightning they would still fight. It was the rules for the battle.
Later in the war New Zealand grew stronger with the United States.

The use of the weapons that Japan used bought the pacific war to a end.

If you had to choose an event for a blurb what would yours be?
