Idea To Supercharge Your Swimming!

Ciao Bloggers!

On Friday 29th November 2019, the year 5-8's at SFOA went swimming at Waltham Pool. This was a big day out. (Sort of known as a treat for us.) When we arrived, we got into our togs and slapped sunscreen on ourselves. (Even though it wasn't that sunny.) When everyone had that done, that's when we got to jump in the pool and have an amazing time! We got to have a play in the pool and have turns going down the water slide. (which was really fun!.) Later on, we all got out of the pool and had our lunch for around 20 mins. When that was done, we put more sunscreen on and jumped back in the pool for a little longer. Later on, we hoped out and headed back for school!
This was a great end of year treat and hopefully get to do it again soon!

Smart Strategies To Connect!

Bonjour Bloggers!

This week for our reading create task, we had to pick 2 sentences out of 2 poems and then make connections to your own life experiences. The 2 poems that I chose were called: The Embarrassement Expert and Giving My Father Frights.

Down below is my create task from my reading workshop.

Achoo.....

Kia Ora Bloggers!

This week for our Writing Task (For Workshops), we have to create a poem. This poem can either be a Limerick Poem, Haiku Poem, Using Comparisons in Poetry or a Cinquain Poem. I have chosen a Limerick Poem. In the Limerick poem, you have to include 5 lines. Lines 1,2 and 5 must include a word that rhymes and 2,4 must include the same. (Words that Rhyme)

Down below is my Limerick Poem!

The sun in my hair blowing through the air.
The clouds in the sky make me wanna cry
As I sat in my chair wishing to be there

All I ever wanted to do was stare

Have you ever done either a Limerick Poem or one of the above before?

The Best Solutions For Activities At School!

Hello Bloggers!

On Friday 22nd November 2019, the year 5-8's at SFOA had a visit from Top Team. Top Team is a group of people who create different activities for us children to take part in and have loads and loads of fun. These activities involve lots of team work and having fun! Some of the activities involved water and sporting equipment that most of us had never seen before. Even though this is a fun activity to do, you still get to earn points at each station and try and come either 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.
This was so much fun and hopefully I get to do this again soon!

On Wednesday 20th November 2019, the year 3-8's from SFOA competed in Tough Kids. (Like a Mud Run) Tough Kids is an event that kids from all different schools take part in and have heaps of fun. There are around 17-18 fun and challenging courses\activities to take part it. The activities invovle: jumping over things, go under things, getting wet, muddy and more!
Some of the activities that we all took part in were:

  • Running\walking through water. (The Sea)
  • Jumping over tyres.
  • Crawling under ropes, decks etc..
  • Completing a Bouncy Castle (That had obstacles and was wet!)
  • Slipping down the Slippery slide while getting sprayed with water.
  • Walking Planks

This was a really great thing to take part in and I can't wait to do it again sometime soon!

How To Create The Perfect Object Out Of Rubbish!

Zdravo everyone! (Language: Croatian)

This week we had another Create task for Reading. Our Create task was to choose a story from the connected books and write what we thought the story was going to be about from the title. Then we had to read the story and write down what we found interesting\didn't know about. Finally we then had to write about our new understanding of the book. The story that I picked was "Turning Old Into New!"

Down below is my Create task from the story: "Turning Old Into New!"

Have you ever read the story "Turning Old Into New" before?
Do you think we can make changes to this world?

Tips For Effortless Sport!

Kia Ora Bloggers!

Over the last couple of weeks on Thursday afternoons, me and my hub have been doing sport rotations. These sport rotations consider: Korfball, Lawn Bowls, Cricket and Softball. Here is a quick description of each of those sports.

  • Korfball: Korfball is a sport just like Netball and Basketball. You team starts off with the ball and you can do multiple things with the ball. (E.G. Throw, Run, Walk etc..) After a while, the coach changes up the rules and makes it a whole lot more challenging.
  • Lawn Bowls: Lawn Bowls is a sport where you use a ball and roll it down the track to get points. The Lawn Bowls that we are doing isn't like the real one. We did it on concrete. We rolled it into the middle and tried to get our team points, then we went into groups of 3 and went around rotations where we could get points. Finally, we got into another lot of teams (that was different) and had a competition where we had to roll the balls first into the hoops and then be the first team to get that done.
  • Cricket: Cricket is like the normal Cricket. We get into teams (Fielding Team and Batting Team) and play agasint each other to win the round.
  • Softball: I haven't done Softball yet but will update this blog post when I have! :)

Have you ever played one of these sports before?

Our Create task was to answer the 4 questions given on a document.
So... down below is my Reading Create Task based on the story "Under The Sea"

Have you ever read the story "Under The Sea" before?

What Do You Really Know?

Ciao Bloggers!!

Around 2 weeks ago, we had two people called Emma and Rory come to talk to us (The Year 7&8's) about Puberty and Relationships. (From Attitude)
On the first day we had Rory and he covered the basics of Puberty. Then on the second day, Emma came as well as Rory and we broke off into genders (Girls with Emma, Boys with Rory) to talk about puberty and relationships.

Two important things that I thought were really inportant that Emma spoke about was:

  1. Don't be rushed into things that you don't want to be in straight away.
  2. Don't be afraid to talk about things like Puberty and Relationships with your parents.
Have you ever talked about Puberty and\or Relationships before?
Did you think it was a little bit awkard like me?

Heart Warming Stories of Camp!

Talofa Bloggers!

In Week 3 of Term 4 2019, the year 7&8 hub went on camp to Wainui. We went on Tuesday 29th October and came back on Friday 1st November 2019. The day all started when we went on the 2 hour bus ride to Wainui which for me took ages! Anyway, when we arrived, we went on this 2 hour hike to our campground. We went up hills, down hills, through forests, through mud, on roads and more. When we finally arrived at the campground, the fun began. We gathered our bags from the bus, went to our cabins and started unpacking. I was in Cabin number 3 with Beccy, Roza, Joanna, Neila, Maia, Harriet and Ella.

Later on we started our first activity for the afternoon. Before we went on Camp, we were put into activity groups which we would do all the activites with. In my activity group was: Myself, Beccy, Harriet, Olivia, Isabella, Dylan, Sam, Finn, Andres and Leo. This was a great activity group! Anyway, the activites that each group would have a go at were:

  • Coasteering
  • Kayaking-Singles and Doubles
  • School Led Orinteering
  • School Led Activity
  • High Ropes
  • Raft Building
  • Outdoor Living
  • Search and Rescue

Tuesday: Coasteering
Wednesday: High Ropes, Archery, Kayaking
Thursday: Outdoor Living, School Led Orinteering, School Led Activity
Friday: Search and Rescue, Raft Building

On Thursday Night, we had some down time to write a reflection on Camp that was based on 4  Questions. Those 4 Questions were:
  • Favourite\Enjoyable Part?
  • Grateful For?
  • Challenging Moments?
  • Learnt?
Down below is my reflection on those 4 Questions above:

1. Favourite\Enjoyable Moment?
My Favourite\Enjoyable Moment on Camp was getting to have a go at new and exciting activities as well as having a great time in my bunk room\cabin with my friends.

2. Grateful For?
I am Grateful for being able to go on this amazing trip, having an amazing time, getting to have a go at new activites, exploring new things and more.

3. Challenging Moments?
For me their were quite a few challegning moments but I managed to get through them all. Some of them were: Being afraid of heights when on the High Ropes, Missing my Family, Getting restriced on some activites and more.

4. Learnt?
I learnt that being away from home is a big challenge, how to belay on the High Ropes, How to shoot in Archery, Learning about the different trees, bushes, plants etc.. on Outdoor Living and lots more.

Have you ever been on Camp before? If so, where have you been?

Are You Still Hunting For Games To Play?

Ciao Bloggers!

Have you ever wanted to play a game that's from a different Country or City? Well, today I have some instructions on how to play a game that is called "The Hat Dance!"
This game has come from Mexico and is very popular around Mexico. All you have to do is Dance!
Down Below is a little bit of a brief about the game and some instructions on how to play it!

The Hat Dance Instructions:

Materials:
Hats for everyone (Individual-NO SHARING)
  • Phone\Laptop\DVD Player etc.. to play the music on.

Players: (4 or more)

Debrief: There is nothing quite like the Mexican Hat Dance to invoke all the images and
specialties of Mexico. It can be performed by anyone and any sort of way as long as it is a
type of dance that fits into the theme of the song or sound.

Step 1: Get together family, friends, anyone who is around and get them all into a circle.
Step 2: Someone from the group is in charge of the music\sound that is from Mexico, which
means they will be in charge of the game. (This might not be a step but it’s a useful piece of info.)
Step 3: Get one player to step into the middle of the circle (wearing their hat) and to start
dancing to the music.
Step 4: Done! (Now just start rotating the players and make sure that everyone has a go
and has a blast of a time!)

Have you ever played this game before?
