This blog here that you are reading now, is my very last blog for this term! (Term 2). Anyway, Today I will be talking about how our PBL "Going Live for a day" went! Enjoy!

Firstly, I have chosen the title "5,4,3,2,1 Quiet" because this blog is about a reflection of how our PBL went and that when reflecting, it should be quiet so you can gain more thought and knowledge.

Reflection:
This term, we have been focusing on Discrimination.  I think that this term, I have worked really hard on our PBL for the term and have learnt multiple things. When we got introduced to our PBL, I knew nothing about it Discrimination let alone the types of Discrimination. (E.G Racism, Sexism, Ableism, Religious Discrimination.) I liked how we got to learn about Discrimination and the types of things we did so we could get a better understanding of the PBL for the term (Term 2). The speech where we had to do it based on discrimination, I think it really helped me gain a lot more knowledge on Racism and wha it really is. Also that I have learnt heaps and heaps on the other types of Discrimination including Racism. (Like I said earlier) When we went live for a day, I loved it! It was exciting to share our learning of Discrimnation with New Zealand and the people that tuned in through youtube when we went live and at our afternoon and evening performances.  At the start, me and Monique were nervous but managed to get back into focus and enjoy the moment. Like I said earlier, I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for Terms 3 & 4’s PBL.

Is Discrimination Affecting your Life?

This term for PBL (Project Based Learning), we have been focusing on Discrmination. Our PBL Driving Question for the term was.. "How do we Speak Up against Discrimination?" Over the term we have been looking at the types of Discrmination and what really Discrimination is. Around week 5, we have do present speeches based on what our topic was going to be for our showcase. I did my speech on Racism. Since then, the whole Hub has been working our our final product. The final products can be either a Ted Talk, A Poetry Slam, A Podcast or A Drama Skit. I am doing a Ted Talk on Racism with my friend Monqiue. On Wedneday 3rd July, we will be going live from Youtube where we will be presenting our final product. Before all this, we had to create an invitation to our parents.

Down Below is my Blurb describing a little bit about our Ted Talk:
We are sharing a TED Talk based on Racism. We will be launching stories from people that have been discriminated against because of their skin colour and race. We will also be explaining what Conscious, Unconscious, Internalised, Interpersonal, and Institutional Racism are. We hope to share some ideas on how you can be an Upstander, and what other people in our hub think an upstander is.

The Art Pit!

Kia Ora everyone!

Welcome back! Today is another amazing day because I have reached 100 blog posts! Yay!!!
Anyway, today I will be talking about "The Art Pit!" Let's get into it!

On Monday (24th June) 2019, our art task was to create an image of ourself using Google Drawings. This was really fun but very challenging! We had around 2 hours to complete this and have as much fun as we could while doing this!
I used the title "The Art Pit" because we were doing "Art" on Google Drawing and I thought the self portrait could fit nicely under the word "Pit" as it's sort of under a world full of colour and shapes.

Mystery Novels, Kind Loving Old Folk

Hello everyone!

Today is an amazing day to read this blog post as I am sharing two different topics with you. They are Diana Isaac and Novel. Let's get into it!!

Mystery Novels:
Over the last couple of weeks on a Tuesday Lunch Time, we have had the choiced to choose a book to listen to, read by the teacher. The three (3) books that we could choose out of were:

• The Boy in the Stripped PJ'S
• Chinese Cinderalla
• Ana Frank

The book that I chose to listen to was...

The Boy in the Stripped PJ'S!! So far, this book is amazing and I really do recommend it as it's a really good read and also to listen to!

Kind Loving Old Folk:
Starting from week 2 in Term 2 (This Term), we have had the opportunity to go to a retirement village called Diana Isaac. Diana Isaac is an amazing retirement village where the old folk get looked after by so many awesome people. In Week 1, we got a google form sent out to us, asking for our name and what our 3 choices were on what we wanted to do\show at Diana Isaac. The choices were:

• Bingo\Board Games
• Baking
• Coding\Technology
• Art
• Balloon Sports

My First choice was Bingo\Board Games then my second was Balloon Sports and finally my third choice was Baking. I got into the Bingo\Board Game activity and had such an amazing time meeting new residents and having so much fun!

Winter Sport

Morena everyone!

Welcome back!!

Every Thursday afternoon, the year 5-8's go to a thing called Thursday Sport to either play, Netball, Hockey, Football\soccer or Rugby. We do this as an extra thing in the Winter season calling it sort of a trip and a special occasion. Anyway, my sport that I put as my first choice and got was Netball. Netball is a Winter Sport and is played either indoors or outdoors. Any ages from year 3 and up can play. From year 3-5, they play 5 aside which invovles 1 Center, 2 Attacks and 2 Defence. From year 6-7, they play 6 aside which invovles 2 Centers, 2 Attacks and 2 Defence. Finally, from year 7 and up they play 7 aside which involves 1 Center, 2 Attacks, 2 Defence, 1 Wing Attack and 1 Wing Defence.

In my team I have, 10 players including me. They are: Luca, Phoebe, Casey, Roza, Samantha, Felicity, Maia, Anabelle, Olivia and myself. (Hannah). We are in the A team! So far in this season, we have won all our games which is amazing! Apart from a few defaults (Which we won!), our team are going really well and are having a fun and enjoyable time!!

Reading Create Task-Predictions

Welcome back!

On a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I am in a reading workshop at 12:00 till 12:25. In this reading workshop for the week, I have been reading a story called Keeping Promises by Mark Derby. Our follow up\create task was two pick 3 paragraphs in the story and predict what might happen in them. The fourth paragraph was a prediction on the whole story. Then our final follow up, was to publish it on our blogs. (What you are reading now!!)
Keeping Promises is a story about the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi and what happened before and after.

Maths Presentation-ScreenCastify

Bonjour and welcome back!

Across these last few weeks, the whole hub (The year 7&8 Kaupeka hub) has been assigned a task about maths. We were shared a problem solving doc and had to figure out four different ways we could see the pattern growing. Then we had to share a story and see if we could do it another way. After completing all those, their were 5 more question down below that were a little bit more challenging and invovled a whole lot more thinking by using our brains and knowledge. After answering everything on this doc, we had to video ourselves compelting this and answering all the questions in good depth.

Reading Task-Literacy

Hello Bloggers!!

Through-out the week, I have been in a reading workshop based on a goal. The goal is: Identify several ideas, discuss the author's stance or purpose and understand relationships in the text. The book that we are reading is called: "NGA Tatarakihi Parihaka". Our task that we have to do based on this book is to write a paragraph to explain the relationships between the characters within the text. Also on why we think the author wrote this book.

By doing this task, it has made me grab a better understanding of the story that we were reading and that I can tell this to others almost off by heart.

Breakout EDU

Good Morning\Afternoon everyone!

I hope your day is going very well!

Today I will be talking about the challenging Breakout EDU that I have been helping run over these last couple of days. Let's roll on round!!!!!!!

Between the dates & days of the 4th June 2019 and 7th June 2019, The Googlers (One of the Year 8 Leadership Groups (That I am in!)) have been running this thing called "A Breakout EDU". A Breakout EDU is where their a box full of something in it  and you have to try and figure out the codes to unlock the box and get to the thing that is inside. While trying to complete this, you are being time. Most Breakout EDU people that are running it, let the group that are figuring it out, to have at least 45 minutes for them to figure it out. If they don't figure it out in time, they don't win. Although, if they do figure it out in the time limit, they will win the prize in the middle. The Googlers have been doing this Breakout EDU to the Kaupeka Hub (Year 7&8 Hub) and so far so good. All of the students have really enjoyed and wish to do it again and again!

Bingo Card

Bonjour everyone! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I will be talking to you about my Bingo Card and and example of one of the tasks.

A few weeks ago, we got introduced to a doc called "Bingo Card". This Bingo Card is where it had 9 different boxes filled with different tasks for us to complete. Before we did any of them, their was one priority that we had to do. That was a problem solving task. We had to answer 8 different questions and solve out 4 problems using the same shapes. When we gathered all that imformation, we had to share and explain it on a screencastify. That screencastify had to be at least between 5-10 minutes long. After completeing that, we could do any of the tasks that were on the Bingo Card making sure that they were correct and up to a good high standard. Some of the tasks that were on the Bingo Card were: Fitness Circuit, Tour Builder, Finding Tigeress, Book Review, Basic Facts, Writing a story, Creating a 3 minute passion project and doing a reflection based on a video.

 The teachers made an amazing rule\advantage that the first person who completed the whole entire Bingo Card will get a prize! Can you guess who got that prize? ME!!! I haven't chosen a prize yet but I will let you know when I do!

Speech Sharing

How many times have you done speeches in your lives so far?
I've done 4!

A few weeks ago, I shared a blog post about my speech and some little imformation around it as well as my intro. Well, in Week 5 it was shareback time for the speeches. Everyone had to share their speech to their homebase across the week. Everyone's speech had to be either on: Racism, Sexism, Ablism or Religous Discrimination. While presenting your speech, you were being timed and assessed by a buddy and your homebase teacher. On that rubric was 4 coloums. Each coloum represented a number between 1 and 4. Those numbers were points. If the teacher or buddy ticked it you would get that many points depending on how well the teacher and your buddy think you went. The time limit that you speech had to be was 4 minutes and 15 secs. I made the cut which was amazing! I know have to wait for the results to see if I get into the speech finals. (If they have speech finals!)

Teacher Strike!

Today I will be sharing my opinion on the teacher strike that happened here in New Zealand on May 29th 2019 as well as why all the teachers went on strike.

So on May 29th 2019, Primary and Secondary teachers (And a few kids) went on strike to protest for more money and more time to spend with the children. They did this strike because right now they are attending so many different meetings and doing a lot of admin which they don't want and don't need. Also that they want to spend more time with the children they teach and help them understand maths, reading writing etc... getting ready for highschool, univeristy, college etc. Right now the average percentage on the teaching is 40% and the admin percentage is 60%. All the teachers want to bring the admin bit down to around 10-15% and the teaching to around 85-100%.

My opinion on this strike is quite low as all the teachers shouldn't have to go on strike because of sill admin stuff. The goverment should just ask for suggestions from all the teachers on what ways would make them happy as well as an easier options for the goverment to help make the teachers happy and make NO more strikes happen.

"Come on Teachers!!!! Let's turn this whole thing round! Let's persuade this goverment to listen to us and make us happy for the students as well as ourselves!"

What do your normally do on a Thursday afternoon in Term 2 and half of Term 3?

Well the year 5-8's at my school do Winter Sport! Winter Sport involves four (4) sports. They are Netball, Hockey, Football\Soccer and Rugby. Each person in years 5-8 had to pick a first and second choice. Also everyone had to do trials for their first and second choice just so the teachers\coaches know what team to put you in if your don't get your first choice.  My choices were:

1st- Netball.
2nd- Football\Soccer.

This year I am in the A team for Netball. My team is called the SFOA Wasps! (What an interesting name!)
In my team are: Phoebe, Casey, Myself (Hannah), Maia, Luca, Samantha, Felicity, Anabelle, Olivia and Roza. (Links on their names are to their blogs!)
We are an amazing team and work really well together! Before the season starts, all the A teams get to go a tournament. At this tournament you verse different schools\clubs that are in the A team for their schools\clubs. My team versed 4 other schools\clubs that day and won all of them which meant we won our section. (Section A!) We loved every moment especially when we were playing in the rain!
In Week 3 of Term 2, all the rest of the teams (including the A teams) played their first game!
My team won 15-14. It was a very close game!

Reading Create Task

Hola readers,

Every week my hub (The 7&8 Kaupeka Hub) timetable our week based on our goals that are in our reports. The Kaupeka hub have a site where we access everything based on our timetables and things like that. From that site is where we get our timetables for the next week. The teachers create the timetable and put all the necessary requirements on their that we can't change. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays we do the workshops. (Sometimes we do it on a Friday due to us being busy on another day!) Anyway based on our goals is what workshops we go to. Each day we have the same thing on for that week and have some requirements. They are: 1 Maths Workshop, 1 Reading Workshop, 1 Writing Workshop, Fitness, Maths Task and Litercay Tasks.

This Week (20 May till 24 May 2019) at 11:30 till 11:55 I had a reading workshop. Our goal for this reading workshop was:  Can use a range of strategies, such as inferring, to work out more complex words.
In this reading workshop we read a book called "War in Waihi by Mark Derpy." (Find out what it is about by reading it! :)) Anyway, each day for the three (3) days of workshops, we have three words. Read, Create, Share, The first day we Read the story and discuss it. The second day we have a set task\s that the teacher discusses then we do that certain task\s. Finally the thrid day is where we share our create task either with the reading group or with the teacher. If we have done a good job on the task, it will be greened off on our reports.
My groups reading task was already drawn for us (By our amazing reading teacher Miss Parish!) (Thanks for that) Anyway, what we had to was pick a passage out of the story (War in Waihi) and find 5 words that made a connection to us.

How to jump start your day with Technology!!

Hello everyone!

Over the last couple of years, I have been to Technology where we are put into groups and in those groups we make a project that lasts for that term. For the year 7's, they do: Cooking, Fabrics\Sowing, Plastics and Woodworks. For the year 8's, they get to do: Cooking, Fabrics\Sowing and Electronics. This year I am a year 8 and I have done Fabrics\Sowing. In Term 1, I made a bag that said "Save the Bees" as well as all sorts of different bees. This Term (Term 2) I am in Cooking. So far we have made either a Carrot & Rasin salad or a Pita Pocket thing and Wedges and Meatballs. (On Monday 13 May) we are\have made hamburgers. They are very yummy! Each week when you are in cooking, you get to bring home something that you can eat where as if your in fabrics\sowing or plastics etc.. you focus on one big project and then bring it home close to the end of the term. 

Here are the details on what I am doing this term!

Class: Cooking (Mrs Lee) (Year 8 Group 2)

Learnt so far: How to wash your hands well, what to do with the food before using it and rinsing all the dishes before washing them.

Goal for the end of the term: To learn multiple things when in the kitchen and how to keep safe when in the kitchen.

Here are 3 recipes that I have collected from cooking class over these last few weeks.

Recipe 1: Carrot and Rasin Salad:

Ingredients:
2 T Raisins\Sultanas
1 Carrot (Grated)
1\2 t Sugar
2 T Juice (From 1 Orange)

Instructions:

1. Add juice to raisins.
2. Add other ingredients.
3. Mix well and chill!

Recipe 2: Pita Pocket (Can't remember name!)

Ingredients:
2 T Baked Beans
2 T Cheese 

Instructions:

1. Cut Pita Bread in half.
2. Spread the Baked Beans and cheese on Pita Pocket.
3. Toast Pita Pocket in grill until Crispy and Hot.
4. Wrap Pita Pocket in baking paper.
5. Enjoy (Best HOT!)

Recipe 3: Flavoured Wedges and Meatballs.

Ingredients: (Wedges)
1 Potato
1 D Oil
A varity of Spices and Herbs

Instructions:
1. Wash Potato.
2. Cut Potato in half (Length ways) then into wedge size. (8 Pieces in total!)
3. Place Potatoes into bowl.
4. Add Oil.
5. Add the herbs and spices that you have chosen.
6. Shake the bowl to coat the potatoes with the seasonings.
7. Place on a lined tray and bake for 20 minutes on 200 C.

Ingredients: (Meatballs)
50g Mince
1D Beaten egg
3 T Bread Crumbs
1 T Diced Onion
1\8 Salt
A shake of pepper

Instructions:
1. Place all ingredients into a bowl.
2. Dice Onions then put into bowl with all the other ingredients.
3. Mix well with a fork.
4. Divide the mixture into 4 and shape into balls with wet hands.
5. Place on the same oven tray as the wedges and bake for 20 minutes or until cooked.

Tip: The middle of the Meatball should not be pink and the juices are clear.

Over the last couple of weeks, my hub have been talking about speeches and the topics that we could do them on. In week 5, we will be presenting out speech to our homebase and trying to persuade those people in the homebase to stop what that person is talking about. E.G Racism, Plastic etc...
This term our speech topic for the speeches has to be around our PBL which is Discrmination.
My topic for this terms speeches is on Racism and how we can stop it.

Goals for Term 2!

This term our teachers have decided to tell us to write a blog post (On Blogger) about our Goals for Term 2 and why we have chosen these certain ones. We can have as many as we want and hopefully some of them are successful. My goals for Term 2 are:

• To complete all work that are set to a very good high standard.
• Have neat and tidy work so my peers and teachers can read it easily.
• Not to be afraid to share my ideas\opinions to others. 
• When working collaboratively, making sure I am letting everyone in the group share their ideas.
• Not getting distracted by anything when working.
• Always being on time to workshops\sessions.
• Asking questions to my peers and teachers if I don't understand anything that they are saying\teaching me. 
• Managing my time wisley.

I have chosen all these goals above for Term 2 because all those goals matter to me the most and that they are achievable and quite easy to achieve during school time. Also because it's sort of the goals the teachers expect for year 8 students and that they can make the right choices and things like that.

Discrimination Art

Bonjour everyone!

This term we have been introduced to Discrimination which is our PBL driving question for the term. Our PBL (Project Based Learing) driving question is: "How can we speak up against Discrimination?" Through-out this term we will be learning about this (Discrimination) as well as all this imformation will lead up to our final product\project. Anyway, one of our tasks under the topic "Discrimination" is where we create a piece of art that shows a photo of ourseleves, (By either drawing ourselves or taking a photo of oursleves and editing it to make it look more interesting) A logo\slogan and a story\quote\song lyrics etc... saying weither we have been in a situation like this (Discrimination) or telling something else along the lines of stopping all sorts of things that come under Discrimination.

Before we start on our good\final copy of this Discrimination art, we needed to plan the art. Here are the things that I have\going to add into my Discrimination art.

- Slogan: "Stand up, Speak up!"

I have a clear plan of what it's going to look like later on when it's complete but things could change depending on what happens.

On Thursday 2nd May 2019, My whole school (SFOA) walked down to Walter Park and particpated in Cross Country. For anyone that doesn't know what Cross Country is here is where you will find out! Cross Country is where everyone runs a certain distance and does their best to try and go to Cross Country Zones\Centrals. At 9am on that Thursday Morning, we packed our bags, got a Year 1\2 buddy and walked on over to Walter Park where Cross Country was to comence! 
The order of Cross Country was:

Year 8 Boys Laps: 3
Year 8 Girls Laps: 3
Year 0-1 Boys Laps: 500m
Year 0-1 Girls Laps: 500m
Year 2 Boys Laps: 500m
Year 2 Girls Laps: 500m
Year 3 Boys Laps: 1 & 500m
Year 3 Girls Laps: 1 & 500m
Year 4 Boys Laps: 1 & 500m
Year 4 Girls Laps: 1 & 500m
Year 5 Boys Laps: 2
Year 5 Girls Laps: 2
Year 6 Boys Laps: 2
Year 6 Girls Laps: 2

This was a very busy but managed to get back to school around 12:30pm on that Thursday.

Anyway, when we arrived at Walter Park, we placed our bags on the grass and chilled until our race was about to start. That was for everyone exepct the year 8 Boys and Girls as well as the Year 7 Boys and Girls whos races were going to start a little bit after we had arrived. Our warm- up was running half of Walter Park and back then doing some moving stretches. When it was time for our race, we started at the line, they called our Ready then Go! Everyone was really pumped and looked quite happy that they were particpating in Cross Country. From the list above, the teachers had put the year 7&8's at the front\top of the list as anyone that wanted to was going to run with the year 0s to year 4s.  I had a bet that it was going to be fun but very tiring.


When all the year 7&8's had finsihed their race, it was time for the little kids to run their race. Any year 7&8's that wanted to do more running could. I wanted to do more running so I put my hand up and offered. In the end I did 7 laps around Walter Park instead of 3! I was super duper tired after all that running! 

At the end of Cross Country I got my result and I came 10th place which was an amazing achievement for me! I had really enjoyed Cross Country and hopefully I get to to it again sometime next year!
