Think You Know How To Write a Narrative Story?

This week, we have been learning about the key features you should\must have in your story when writing one. We had to make a copy of the template that was given and then start to plan our story. Our Story that we are going to write has to be on an Ethical Issue and what it could be\look like in the Future. My story is a Narrative and is based on Space.

Life at St Francis Of Assisi!

At St Francis Of Assisi school we have 4 hubs. They are:

Year 1 and 2’s -Kakano

Year 3 and 4’s- Piaka.

Year 5 and 6’s -Tumu (Me)

Year 7 and 8- Kaupeka

Each hub learn different things because they are different years and different ages.

Over the week, I asked some of my friends to write a question so I could answer it on one of my blog posts. Here are the questions and the answers from my friends.

Question 1: What is different about St francis of Assisi then all the other schools?

Answer: Well, St Francis Of Assisi School is different from other school’s because we do stuff differently and celebrate things differently.

Question 2:  What sort of things do you learn at St Francis Of Assisi school?

Answer:  We learn helps of cool stuff that other schools normally learn but do them differently. Some of them are:

Maths

Reading

Writing

RE

PBL

Dance

Music

Art

Question 3: What are hubs and why do you call them that name?

Answer: Firstly we have hubs so we don't’ learn the same thing if we are a bit older than others and so we play with the people that are our ages.

So like I said before we have 4 hubs. They are split from younger ones to older ones.

Secondly we have called them those names because they belong to the same family. At the start of term 2 we asked people to make up names for all the hubs. The best pones would win Movie vouches. 1 group got chosen and the names were:

Kakano

Piaka

Tumu

Kaupeka  

They are all names from trees.

Question 4: Why is this school a catholic school?

Answer:  St Francis Of Assisi school is  a catholic school because we learn RE and when we merged with Our Lady of Fatima, they were both catholic schools so we decided to keep it that way as we mostly all know about RE.

Question 5: What sort of activities do you do over the year?

Answer: Well each hub do different activities because some stuff might be dangerous for the little ones and for the older ones is could be a bit babyish.

The year 1&2’s do activities like:  going to the pools, going to WillowBank and Orana park.

The year 3&4’s do activities like: going on camp. Going to swimming pools and going to things that relate to what they are learning.

The year 5&6’s do activities like: going to camp, going to things that relate to what they are learning, going to flip out and Mege Air.

The year 7&8’s do activities like: Going on adventuress that relate to what they are learning, going to manul, going on camp and going to fun activities for rewards.

Question 6: Do you like school and why?

Answer: I definitely like school because you are learning new things, getting so many playdates with your friends while at school, meeting new journeys and having fun while learning,.

Question 7: What activities do you do after school that relate to school?

Answer: After school I do 1 activity that relates to school. That is coding. Coding is where you use a website called Scratch and you make cool games. I have finished scratch, HTML and python and am now working on Gamefroot.

Question 8:  What is PBL?

Answer: Well PBL is where you either create your own questions underneath the tasks that were given  (with a driving question) or the teachers give you something to work on( with a driving question.) This term we have a question and then we make tasks to complete it.

Halloween Writing!

During Silent Writing (SUW) I have been working on a story called Halloween Writing. This story is just based on a group of friends who are talking about Halloween in a group chat.

Here is a paragraph about Halloween on a group chat.

Halloween chat:

Mollie: Any of you guys on?

Samantha: Yes

Moana: Yes

Mollie: Okay sweet.

Mollie: I wanted to ask you guys something about Halloween.

Samantha: Sure

Moana: Okay!?

Mollie: Great, are any of you guys going trick or Treating?

Hannah: Hi, I am going Trick or Treating.

Mollie: Awesome. I am too.

Samantha: Maybe. It just depends if my mum will take me or if I go with a friend.

Moana: Nah, My family don’t celebrate Halloween.

Mollie: Oh ok!

Mollie: I was thinking that everyone on this chat could go trick or treating together.

Samantha: Sure. I will go and ask.

Mollie Ok. Anyone else

Ally: Oh Hi, Just been eating dinner. What have we been talking about?

Mollie: Hi Ally. We have been talking about Halloween.

Mollie: We were thinking that everyone on this chat could go trick or treating together.

Ally: I will go and ask.

Samantha: I’m back. My mum said that's fine. I can go for a while but have to be back home at 10:30.

Mollie: Great! I will go and ask my mum and dad now to.

Moana: My mum said maybe.

Samantha: Oh. Okay Don’t you hate it when your parents say maybe instead of yes or no when you are waiting for an answer.

Moana: I sure do.

Mollie: I have to go, but will talk tomorrow.

Moana: Okay bye!

Mollie: Bye

Samantha: Where’s Mollie Gone?
Moana: She said she had to go but will talk tomorrow

Samantha: Okay I will go too. Bye!

Moana: Same with me Bye.

Ally: Who left me hanging!!

School Trip!

On Monday the 21st of August 2017 my hub and me went on a school trip.
 Our focus for this trip was to get information for building our new school hall.
 The school trip was for PBL (which is Project based Learning).
 A few weeks before the school trip, we got put into a group of 4.
 Later on we gathered into our groups and discussed where we were going for the school trip.
 There were 4 options. They were: Biz DoJo, Imagination station, Core Education and Hill-view.
I got given to go to Biz DoJo.
 Biz DoJo is is a place where you rent a desk for $699. You either choose to work by yourself or with other people. Biz DoJo wants everyone to work together and make the business a happy and safe place. Right now there are 2 businesses that are making 2 different things. The first team is making a Lazer and the second team is making nets, so when an earthquake happens the rocks will fall into the net and catch them so they do not fall on the road.

After we had been to our places, we got to go to the Margret Mahy Park and do team challenges.
When we arrived we firstly ate our lunch and then got to play for a while. Then when the whistle blew, we went to sit down and then the teacher gave us a scavenger hunt to do. It was so fun and challenging.

When the time was over, we got on the bus and left. It had been the best time ever!

Game Of Awesome Writing

Over the last few weeks some of my home base and I played a game called Game Of Awesome.
Game Of Awesome is where you have four categories and then the person that is the judge picks a card and then the cards that you have, you have to pick one of them that matches the word that the judge picks. When everyone has picked a card, the judge turns all the cards over and chooses 2 that matches the word. We used the words as story ideas. We played 2 rounds of Game of Awesome and the words that we got were.. Destruction\ A Human Wrecking Ball\ Splitting the atom. 
My focus for this writing was: Speech Marks.
For my Writing I chose Splitting The Atom. Here is a few paragraphs of my story.



                                      The Outstanding Adventure!!

Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Lulu. Lulu was a naughty kid but had the best imagination ever. When Lulu was born she had cancer. Her parents could not stand Lulu having cancer so they moved to a different country and left Lulu behind. Lulu’s parents did not know that the cancer could be cured so when Lulu was all cured, the doctors told her to live on her own. Lulu was a bit sad that her parents had gone but on the other hand she could do whatever she wanted. Now Lulu did not want to be naughty she wanted to be the best in the world. So she decided that she would make an outstanding plan to make her parents come home.  Her first part of the plan was to go home and eat. Lulu did have some food at the hospital but most of it was disgusting so when it arrived she would just push it away.

For dinner she was going to have gooey eggs with grainy toast and of course her favourite  crispy bacon. She loved that! When she had finished cooking and was about to eat she heard a phone ring. She asked herself. What could that be? Lulu got up from the table and followed the sound till she was in the room. To her surprise it was her dad's phone. She pressed the button and it was her mum texting her dad saying “Hi Lulu.” “How are you doing”  “We are in Australia having so much fun.” Love you”  Lulu was so surprised that her mum and dad were texting her. They must have left her dad's phone here so they could talk to Lulu. Lulu scurried quickly and picked up the phone. She did the password and went back to finish her dinner.

While she was eating the rest of her dinner, she read all the texts from the last few weeks and then decided to text back. She said “ Hi Mum and Dad. How you doing?  I am all cured. Hip Hip Hooray!! I would really like you guys to come back to New Zealand and be with me as I am very sad and need some company.  Love you anyway. From Lulu.”

She sent the text and turned the phone off. She really hoped that they would text back tonight.

Once she had finished her dinner she got out of the broken chair and went to clean her plate. Once that was done she went to get ready for bed. There was not that much to do as most of her stuff had disappeared. When that was done she grabbed the phone off the table and went to bed. What she wanted to do is she wanted to find out how this had all started. Firstly she started with the contacts. Nothing! Next Lulu checked missed calls. Nothing! She tried the last part which was… Messages and Nothing! That’s Weird. Where  could everything be? Once that was done she put the phone down and went to sleep.

During the night, Lulu woke up. She woke up because she heard noises. The noises were loud and scary. Lulu decided to get up and leave. She could not stand having these noises when it was her first day back at home. So she got up, got dressed, packed her bag and left. Along the way she dreamed of having her parents with her. Lulu started to cry. She missed them to bits.

My Step out Writing!

During week 3 and 4 we were learning about how to step out some writing. Step out writing is where you read a short story and then mix the story up in your own words.  This step out story was based on the Gingerbread Man. While I was writing this story, I was concentrating on how to make it different from the Gingerbread Man. Here are 2 paragraphs of my step out story. I hope you enjoy!

The Old Rusty Pie!

Once upon a time  there was a little ugly  old lady and a little ugly old man who who lived in a rusty cottage near the dirty river. One morning the little ugly old lady and the ugly little old man were hungry so they decided to make a delicious apple pie. She heated the juicy apples, then dried the hot apples, then added spicy sugar, chocolate cinnamon, salty salt and cornstarch.

After that she cut out a humongous circle from the apple  pie and then put it in the hot oven to cook. When the apple pie was cooked the little ugly old lady opened the oven door but before she could take it out of the oven and let it cool the apple pie jumped out and ran through the cottage and jumped  out the door.

My Silent Writing Story.

Everyday after lunch we have been doing Silent writing. This is a draft and there may be a few errors. My story that I have chosen for my writing is called the Dark Hole. I hope you enjoy!

                The Dark Hole!

One cold wet morning when Scarlet and Ivy were getting ready for their day , there pet dog ( called Diamond) started howling at them like there was something bad happening. Scarlet and Ivy turned the tight corner and in their  horror they saw a very black hole. Scarlet and Ivy dared not to go in but inside them they desperately wanted to. So both of them talked in a doggy voice and said to Diamond

“ Go into the black hole and if you see anything bad or mysteries go sprinting straight out and don't look back. Clear.” The dog barked and walked on in like a very posh lady. The girls laughed. They had never seen Diamond walk like that before.

About 10 minutes later Diamond had not come back, and the girls started to get worried. So after a few minutes Scarlet had an idea. What they were going to do was get a  piece of paper and a pen and draw up a plan that will save Diamond plus themselves (if they get lost.`) Later on Scarlet and Ivy had put together an awesome plan that will help them find Diamond. So after a while they packed their bags and checked each others just in case they had forgotten anything such as- Food, Water, clothing, the plan and a few things more. Once that was all done they locked every door in the house and frightfully walked through the mysterious black hole.

After a few minutes they were in a land of… Nothing. That was mysteries because if Diamond walked into this land he would of ran back through the dark hole. Scarlet and Ivy were getting very scared. What happened if they lost Diamond forever? Where was she? And is she ok ? Both of them started searching and calling out “ Diamond Diamond where are you. Come out come out wherever you are.” But even if they did that for 10 minutes or longer Diamond would not come. When it started getting dark ( even though at home it would only be 3.00) they both found a nice tidy place to set up everything and then got to work..

Firstly they got the tent out and put together all the teamwork they had and started putting it up. Once that was all done they unpacked everything that they had bought and started splitting off doing 3 jobs each. Scarlet had the job to cook there dinner, set up everything that she had bought along and also had to make a plan for tomorrow. Ivy had the job to clear all the dishes from the tables, set up everything that she had bought along from home and also had to make a plan for the next day just in case they were staying at the land of nothing for a long time. When Scarlet called out that dinner was ready Ivy ran to the table as fast as she could because she was desperately hungry from the big adventure that they had today. For dinner they were having ready salted rice with caramelized vegetables, spicy chicken and a thick gloppy sauce. Scarlet and Ivy had gobbled that up so fast because they were very hungry indeed. Once they had finished their dinner Ivy cleaned up everything and Scarlet got onto the best dessert ever that she was making.

Once Ivy had finished cleaning up she thought that while Scarlet was making dessert she would start on her plan to save Diamond. That took her a long time as when Scarlet called out that dessert was ready she had only written The Plan to save Diamond. Anyway for dessert that were having chocolate brownie with rich chocolate sauce and vanilla ice- cream with a touch of mutile colored sprinkles. They were both absolutely looking forward to this dessert. That was their favourite meal of the day! After dessert they both cleaned up what they had to clean up and then lit the fire because  it was getting quiet cold in this land of nothing. Once that was all done they both got into their polka dot PJ’s and sat down on a very spiky log and roasted yummy marshmallows. They did not roast that meany because they were very full from dinner and now dessert. After 20 minutes had gone past they blowed out the fire and went to bed. Today had been a very long day as because they had their own personal jobs to do and they were completely worried about their dog Diamond. Once they got all ready for bed they snuggled up in there sleeping bags and talked for a while about what they would do in the morning. After a while they were both fast asleep waiting for the day to come so they could find Diamond.

The next morning they both woke up at 4 in the morning which was a very great surprise to them because they got more time for them to look for diamond. They both spend out of their sleeping bags and ran towards the fire ready to cook breakfast But when they stepped on the floor something happened. The floor was made to ice and started falling apart. Scarlet and Ivy did not know what to do. What if they were stuck in their tent and then suddenly they fell  to another part that went down the the very bottom. Both of the girls were really scared. After a few minutes they both heard a barking sound. They both quickly thought that it might be Diamond. They sped out of the tent although they were not aloud on the ground ( as it was ice and could break on them) and then Scarlet spotted Diamond lying on the ground like she was badly hurt. They both ran over and had a look at Diamond. She had scratches all over her and her head had also been bruised very badly. Ivy said to Scarlet that she would run back over to their tent and get a stretcher and bring it back for Diamond. Ivy ran off and in about 3 minutes time she was back with a stretcher for Diamond. They both lifted her off the icy cold ground and putted her on the stretcher.

When they got back Scarlet grabbed the first aid pack and they both started band changing to the right ones and fixing Diamond up. When that was all done they picked up all the rubbish, put it all in the bin and then hugged and kissed diamond because they thought that they had lost her forever and were glad that they had found her. Later on when Diamond was feeling much better they thought that they would hunt for a way out of whatever this land was called. After a few minutes they had packed up everything that they had and started off on their way back home journey. Diamond had been looking forward to this because she got to lead the way of all the adventures that they were having anytime. Later on when the sun was setting Scarlet and Ivy were always looking at their watch because they were both panicking if they did not find the black hole in time before it was completely dark. They could end up in a completely different world that could take them ages to get back home again. About 15 minutes later Diamond started barking at Scarlet and Ivy. They both thought that Diamond had found the black hole. When they both looked straight they were both right. Diamond had found the black hole which they came out of. Scarlet gave Diamond a little treat to nibble on because he had found the black hole. After he had finished the treat Scarlet and Ivy sped as fast as they could so they do not miss the black hole. When they walked out they were all safely back home ready to unpack and chill back into their normal life at home.

The next day when they were both  getting up Diamond was not on their bed. Scarlet said to Ivy “ Please say that Diamond has not ran off again into the black hole”? Ivy looked around and said to Scarlet ” Unfortunately she has.” Scarlet screwed up her face and yelled out  “Why did she”.
