Science -Collapsing Can and Slime!

Hello Bloggers!!

I’m back from my six week holiday. Yay!

So for my first blog for this year is going to be about Science.

Over the last few weeks we have been learning 4 different types of science. They are: Chemistry, Physics, Planet Earth and Beyond and finally Biology.
So far we have done two weeks of science. The first rotation I did was Chemistry. We made slime. It was supposed to be slime but then it turned out to be Oobleck. It was fun but none of the groups turned out to be actually like Oobleck.

The first thing we did was collect all our ingredients and equipment. They were 1 cup of flour, half a cup of water, 1 cup of cornstarch, a few drops of food coloring. Spoon, bowl and cup.
Firstly grab a bowl and pour your flour in. Secondly add a bit of water in at a time until it’s all gone. While adding the water also add some cornstarch until it’s all gone. Thirdly pick it up (only if its looks good enough to play with) and start needing it with your hands. Once it’s all together put it back in the bowl and add some food coloring (optional). Once that's done you have made Oobleck.  Congratulations!
It was so fun and I would love to do it again soon.

The second rotation I did was Physics. We made a collapsing can.
It was an awesome experience but my groups can did not squish. It was so annoying!!
The steps to make the collapsing can work was…

The first thing that we did was to grab our ingredients and equipment. They are: a can of fizzy (E.G. Sprite\Fanta), tongs, bowl, ice cold water, hot water and a stove top.
Firstly we grabbed our can and drank the sprite (optional).
Secondly we filled the can with hot hot water and put it on the stove to simmer.
While the can was on the stove, we got a bowl and filled it up with cold water. When that was done we added ice cubes to make it even colder!!
After we had done that the can had started steaming so that meant try time. We carefully picked up the can with the tongs and quickly tipped it into the cold water with the ice cubes. Some groups can had squished and other hadn’t.
It was a great experience and I would love to do it again.

So that is all about my 2 science rotations.

Have you ever made slime or done a collapsing can before?? Explain Why\Why not?
