Science (Week 2 Blog)

Bonjour Bloggers!

For this blog today I am going to be talking to you about Science. There are a few types of Science I have done so far but will be talking to you about one.

We are using our previous knowledge from last term to complete a science fair project. The science fair is where you pick a topic, do some tasks for it and then present it. We got given a few weeks to have a look to see what projects  we would like to choose. Here is the link to the website. Science Buddies. This is where we found ideas for our science project. When we had found one we next had to think of a science question that we could focus on through out our project. When we had found one we had to sign up to a meeting with Mrs Cummings to see if our question was alright to use as our focus. She would help us if it wasn't a good topic or if we needed to change some wording on our question. After finishing our question we started to research our topic. Each week we need to do something that relates to our science project. If we get it done by each Friday of the week we will be ready for the presentation. If we don't we might have to work on it at home. AHHHH! This week we are coming up with a hypothesis and background research. Now you might be wondering what is the main part in this blog. Well in this blog I have given you information about science on what we did last term and what we are doing this term. The main part in this blog is me telling you about my project.
Here is some information about my science project.

Name: Hot Ice Cream.

Summary: Would you like a bit of a different twist to your ice- cream? In this project I am going to be making hot ice-cream and seeing what is the key ingredient\s that makes the Ice-Cream hot.

Question: What is the key ingredient in making ice cream that doesn't melt at room temperature?

Hypothesis: The more Methyl Cellulose added the longer the ice-cream will take to melt. Some ingredients in  Methyl Cellulose are powerful which makes the Methyl Cellulose hold it’s shape longer so after a while it will go back to its normal room temperature.

Background Research:
The special ingredient in hot ice-cream is Methyl Cellulose. When Methyl Cellulose is heated, after a while it will melt back to room temperature. Methyl Cellulose will be the main ingredient to make 3 different batches of Hot Ice-Cream.

What and how does Methyl Cellulose work?
Methyl Cellulose is modified cellulose. Cellulose makes plants grow strong when growing. When chefs use Methyl Cellulose they like to dissolve it evenly in other ingredients. When cooking Methyl Cellulose  it becomes a solution thickened which means when it gets heated it will become a liquid again. When it is cooled it will go back to its normal room temperature.

What was your project that you did when you were participating in the science fair or if you participated in a science fair what would you choose??
